Ontario Native Plants for Clay Soil
Find native Ontario plants whose profiles include clay soil, then compare moisture, drainage, light, and mature size for your garden.
Separate texture from moisture
The list below selects plants whose soil-texture field includes clay. It does not assume that every clay site is wet: check each profile’s moisture and drainage requirements against conditions in your bed.
Narrow the selection by light and size
Use the full species browser to add sun and height filters. Compare mature spread as well as height when deciding how many plants fit the space.
Plan beyond the bloom
Follow the ecological links on a plant profile to explore wildlife associations and native communities. Choose a mix of suitable growth habits and flowering periods rather than relying only on flower colour.
